Who We Are

A deal origination firm built for Africa's growth moment

Mvula Capital is a Johannesburg-based deal origination and capital advisory firm. We work across energy transition, mining and critical minerals, infrastructure finance, and agriculture — sectors that define the economic trajectory of Sub-Saharan Africa.

We are not a passive broker. We take direct mandates from project developers and commodity producers, structure transactions to institutional standards, and introduce them to the right capital — whether that is a development finance institution, a family office, or a strategic industrial partner.

Our network spans South Africa, West Africa, East Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Our standard is simple: every deal we bring to market must be real, bankable, and ready for serious capital.

"We work with principals, not chains. Every deal we advance has a verified project or commodity, an identified capital source, and a mandate that protects our role before the first introduction is made."

Direct Mandates
We hold mandates from project principals — not sub-mandates from other intermediaries. This protects our fees and our clients.
Institutional Standards
We prepare deal documentation to the standard required by DFIs, banks, and institutional investors — not the standard of the secondary broker market.
Outcome-Oriented
Our business model depends on deals closing. We structure our engagements to eliminate the conditions that keep deals perpetually in motion and never in completion.

Leadership

Founded with purpose.
Built on principals.

Malizo Magangane founded Mvula Capital in 2020 with a clear conviction: Africa's resource and infrastructure potential is vast, but the gap between credible projects and credible capital remains poorly served. Too many deals are lost to intermediary chains with no principals. Too much capital moves past Africa because the deal origination infrastructure is not there to meet it.

Based in Johannesburg — Africa's financial capital — Malizo has built an active deal network spanning South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, the DRC, the UAE, and China, with engagement across energy transition projects, mineral resource transactions, and infrastructure capital raises. Mvula Capital operates alongside its sister company Mvula Telecoms, a technology managed services firm, sharing infrastructure while maintaining distinct mandates.

Africa does not lack opportunity. It lacks the structured, credible bridge between those opportunities and the global capital that wants to deploy here. That is what Mvula Capital exists to build.
Our Sectors

Four verticals.
One continent.

We operate with depth in four sectors where Africa's growth story is most compelling and where the demand for structured, credible deal origination is highest. These are not aspirational categories — they are where our active mandates and capital relationships live.

01

Energy Transition

South Africa and the broader continent face a critical energy gap. We originate and raise capital for solar PV, battery energy storage, waste-to-energy, and embedded generation projects — structured to meet DFI and commercial bank requirements.

Solar PV BESS Waste-to-Energy C&I Generation IPP
02

Mining & Critical Minerals

Africa holds the majority of the world's critical mineral reserves. We work with licensed producers and project developers to originate off-take agreements, structured trade finance, and capital raises across gold, copper, iron ore, coal, and battery minerals.

03

Infrastructure Finance

Large-scale infrastructure projects require specialised capital structuring — blending DFI debt, commercial bank facilities, and equity from institutional and strategic investors. We advise on and originate capital for transport, digital, water, and industrial infrastructure.

04

Agriculture & Agri-Logistics

Food security and agricultural productivity are strategic priorities across Sub-Saharan Africa. We originate investment opportunities in commercial farming, agri-processing, cold-chain logistics, and agricultural technology — connecting projects with development capital and off-take partners.

How We Work

From origination
to close.

Our process is built around a single principle: we only advance deals where we can occupy the position of a direct, mandated advisor — not an intermediary in a chain. This makes our engagements faster, cleaner, and more likely to close.

01
Mandate & Verification

We begin every engagement with a direct mandate from the project owner or principal seller. We verify the asset, the entity, and the regulatory standing before any capital introduction is made.

02
Deal Structuring

We prepare institutional-grade documentation: investment memoranda, financial models, deal teasers, and transaction term sheets. The deal is structured before it is marketed.

03
Capital Introduction

We introduce the deal to the right capital source — matched by size, mandate, geography, and risk appetite. This includes DFIs, commercial banks, family offices, PE funds, and strategic industrials.

04
Transaction Advisory

We support both sides through due diligence, term negotiation, and close. Our fee is earned on completion — aligning our interest completely with the deal closing.

What We Require Before Engaging
  • A verifiable asset or project with clear ownership and regulatory status
  • A direct mandate from the principal — we do not accept sub-mandates
  • A defined capital need that is realistic for the asset stage
  • Willingness to support the documentation process required for institutional capital
  • Engagement on fee arrangement before capital introductions are made
What We Do Not Do
  • Accept sub-mandates from other brokers or intermediaries
  • Introduce capital before a mandate and fee agreement is in place
  • Work with projects that lack verifiable ownership documentation
  • Advance deals that are not ready for institutional scrutiny

    Development Finance

IFC, AfDB, DEG, FMO, Proparco, BII, IDC, DBSA, NEF. DFIs provide concessional debt and equity for infrastructure and resource projects with a development mandate. Our deal documentation is structured to their requirements.

    Strategic Industrial Capital

Chinese EPCs and industrials (HDEC, Power China, CCEC) bringing equity co-investment alongside engineering contracts. Gulf sovereign wealth and UAE family offices seeking African asset exposure.

    Impact & Green Finance
